Water Under Heat Pump

I just installed a new to me Rheem 5100 series heat pump. It's been running for about 2 hours and water is starting to puddle from under the unit. Do these drain like a/c units do? Looking for some advice.
Thanks,
Mike
Pool Heat pump installation inside a garage

Hello,

I have a sort of strange but interesting dilema.

I live in a suburb just out side of Toronto Canada and we have a 16x34' oval inground (currently unheated) pool. I would like to install a heating system next spring and am considering a heat pump.

That said our pull equipment is in an unheated single car garage attached to our house with piping running under a our deck between 30' and 50' to the respective skimmer and pool outlets.

Given the location of the deck and the layout of the yard and plumbing and the fact that the pool equipment is located beside an exterior wall in the garage from an aesthetics perspective it would be ideal to install the heat pump within my garage.

Understanding that such indoor installations are normally frowned upon for all of the obvious reasons I'm looking for ideas on how I might effectivley set this up to draw in sufficient outside air and venting cooled air through louvers(sp?) out the wall between my garage and patio. As our summers can be very hot and humid if this could be made to work it would have the added benefit of releasing cooled air out on to our deck which (provided it could be done fairly quitetly) would nice for anyone sitting on the deck on a hot summers day.

I realize that this is not the usual approach but I really don't have a good alternate location for a heat pump or heater otherwise.

In theory I'm thinking that provided I could feed and exhaust sufficent air it would work....just not at all familar with the required math.

Stuart.
Choice of Heat Pump

I spoke to Kevin on the phone today. He was great and educated me on Heat Pumps for our Swimming pool in Indiana. My pool installer mentioned the Rheem 130,000 BTU. How does this compare to the Jandy AE3000. My pool installer stated they are about the same price. The Jandy AE3000 has 135,000 BTU's. I know Rheem use to be Raypac. That's all I know. In addition, I cannot locate a HVAC who can install a heat pump for a pool in the Indianapolis area. I called a bunch of different places and none worked on pool heat pumps. Any suggestions? I am probably going to order my heat pump from your guys.

My neighbor has a pool heat pump right up against my fence. The fan makes so much noise I can't enjoy my backyard. Are there some kind of noise deadening device I can tell her to get?
Thanks
heat siphonSX5 model

From what I have read about the installation, the plumbing from the pump(water from the pool) but before the in-line chlorinating should be at the bottom opening at the back of the heat siphon, and the heated water to be returned to the pool plumbing plumbed at the top opening. Right? Basically, the water enters at the bottom and flows out of the top returning to the pool? Just checking before installer comes to make sure it is done correctly.

external thermostat controlling runtime

Hi, new to the forum. I have a weekend house with a pool in upstate new york. We just installed a new jandy 3000 heat pump and it works great. the only problem is that it runs a lot at night when it is cool and I know that this is inefficient. I could just use the pump timer to limit operation to the daytime, but this isn't ideal.

The jandy has pool/spa/off circuit that runs independent of the main controller and I was wondering if it is possible to rig a dial thermostat such that it only turns the pump to the on/pool position when the outside temperature is above the selected amount.

any thoughts would be appreciate.

Pool heat pump - water in the coil

Hi,

I recently had my heat pump serviced. The technician said it was low on freon. He searched for a leak using a detector, but couldn't find it. He went ahead and refilled the freon and the heater seemed to work fine. When I went to use it next, about a week later, it wouldn't even start. He came back out and found water in the coil. He said that the heater is not repairable and I should consider buying a new one.

I wish I could tell you what brand heat pump it is. It's not anywhere on the unit. The technician said the coil is copper and probably corroded from the chemicals.

My question is, once there is water in the coil, can the heat pump be repaired?

Thanks for your help.

WB

Winterizing Heat Siphon SX 3.25

Disconnected my Heat Siphon from my pool pump. Instructions say to be sure there's no water left in the heat exchanger I should pour anti-freeze in the outlet until it comes out of the inlet. Just want to make sure this is the normal practice. Don't really want to pour anti-freeze in unless I know it's going to come back out.

BTW, this was my first summer with the Heat Siphon and it was an incredible addition to my pool.

Thanks again!
